Enabled Youth Disability Network Incorporated

The Enabled Youth Disability Network Incorporated (EYDN) is a nonprofit youth policy and advocacy organisation based in South Australia, operated by and for young people living with disability. Established with the goal of fostering empowerment, connection, and capacity building among youth with disability, EYDN primarily serves individuals aged between 16 and 35 years old.

Mission and Activities

EYDN provides a platform where young people with disability can engage in advocacy, education, and community involvement through various programs and events. The organisation runs monthly peer group meetings in Adelaide, South Australia, which are free and open to young people with disability. These meetings, facilitated by Peer Connectors who are prominent leaders in the youth disability community, focus on different topics each month to ensure participants feel empowered, informed, and connected.

Beyond regular meetings, EYDN extends its outreach through regional workshops aimed at young people with disability residing in rural areas. It also operates a school mentorship program and convenes focus and co-design groups to involve youth in shaping programs and initiatives that impact them directly. By centring co-design and lived experiences, EYDN ensures its programming remains relevant, supportive, and impactful.

Governance and Approach

The organisation is committed to inclusivity and leadership development within the youth disability community. All programs and events are co-designed and run by young members themselves, fostering leadership, advocacy skills, and meaningful peer connections. EYDN promotes access, choice, and inclusion, encouraging its members to take action on issues affecting their lives and communities.

Child Safety Commitment

EYDN is a registered Child Safe Organisation, dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of children and young people. The organisation enforces a zero-tolerance policy against child abuse and misconduct, aligning with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations to maintain safe, inclusive, and supportive environments.

Funding and Support

The organisation receives funding from the Australian Government's Department of Social Services and receives support from JFA Purple Orange, enabling it to sustain and expand its programs and advocacy work.

Classification and Beneficiaries

EYDN's programs are classified primarily under youth mentoring, serving youth aged 15 to under 25, as well as people with disabilities, especially focusing on those living in South Australia.
