Forcibly Displaced People Network Ltd
The Forcibly Displaced People Network Ltd is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation in Australia, dedicated to advocating for LGBTIQA+ individuals who have been forcibly displaced due to persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics. As the first registered LGBTIQA+ refugee-led organisation in Australia, it plays a pivotal role in supporting and empowering this community.
Mission and Objectives
The organisation's mission is to create a future where every LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced person not only survives but thrives, with their rights and dignity recognised and protected. FDPN aims to build safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTIQA+ people, which it believes benefits everyone, particularly in strengthening multicultural communities. The organisation acknowledges that addressing homophobia and transphobia is crucial to combating racism and vice versa, working towards a more connected and inclusive Australia.
Activities and Initiatives
FDPN focuses on peer support and strengthening services and policy responses for LGBTIQ+ persons in forced displacement. It encourages communities to include and value LGBTIQA+ multicultural individuals, amplifying their often marginalized voices both in Australia and globally. The organisation operates a lived experience advisory group called SAME (Support, Advocacy, and Migration Experts), which guides FDPN's strategic directions to address concerns most relevant to LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people.
External Recognition
FDPN is recognized for its contributions to promoting human rights and inclusion. It is an associate member of relevant organizations committed to similar causes, underscoring its commitment to enhancing settlement outcomes for LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers, migrants, and refugees in Australia.
Structure and Governance
As a registered charity, FDPN operates under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and complies with relevant regulations to ensure transparency and accountability in its operations. The organisation's activities are designed to center the voices of those it serves, ensuring that policy and service development are informed by lived experiences.
The Forcibly Displaced People Network Ltd is a significant advocate in Australia for the rights and dignity of LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced persons, striving to create a more inclusive society for all.
