Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum

Located on the original Factory site, our museum showcases the industrial heritage of our nation Our mission during 2021/22, was targeted at rebuilding our exhibits and community engagement following COVID. In an effort to ramp up activity, we increased our quest in taking on mature aged workers and providing them with volunteering experience in both museum duties and outdoor activity. We took on 5 new volunteers, all but one was a mature aged worker. We maintained our relationships with schools and hosted several school groups (primary and secondary) by explaining the history of Lithgow and the Factory and taking them on a tour, a focus of which was about engineering, manufacturing and working conditions. We hosted the NSW Premier's Student Scholarship group which was doing a national tour of major defence and industrial institutions. In an effort to improve the visitor experience, we made 4 large tables (for outside seating) utilising the skills of the Wallerawang Mens Shed to fabricate the table legs. We also enagaged a young person with a disability and provided clerical work for her under supervision from her carer.

Calling all NSW residents! We need help with our NSW Parliament petition. Apart from our firearms history, there are also important artefacts and stories of innovation and ingenuity at stake. An Australian cultural icon - our birthplace of precision manufacturing, and the scene of many groundbreaking events in war and peace. We are hoping a discussion in parliament will bring some action and for that we need 20,000 signatures. Please sign and share the petition.
