Religious leaders are urging Attorney-General Michelle Rowland to revisit the contentious religious discrimination bill. According to media reports, faith leaders are hopeful the newly appointed AG will take steps to legislate religious protections. But we need to make sure the AG also commits to ending discrimination against our community. Right now, firing, expelling and discriminating against LGBTQ+ staff and students in religious schools is still legal under our federal laws. Every day the government waits to act more people are exposed to the distress this discrimination causes. Faith groups say the law doesn’t need to change because discrimination no longer happens. We know this isn’t the case – but we need to hear from you or anyone you know who might be able to share their story.
