The Gillin Boys Foundation Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Warrnambool Inc

Overview

The Gillin Boys Foundation Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Warrnambool Inc. is a nonprofit organisation founded in 2016 by brothers Christopher and Aaron Gillin. Both brothers were diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, leading them to establish the foundation to raise awareness and funds for this debilitating condition[1][3]. Initially operating as "Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Warrnambool," it became a registered foundation in February 2020 with a full committee[3].

Mission and Activities

The foundation's primary mission is to support research into muscular dystrophy cures through extensive fundraising efforts. These activities include selling merchandise and organizing various events across the region. By raising over $150,000 up until February 2020, the organisation has made significant contributions to Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation and Muscular Dystrophy Australia[1][2]. Their broader aim is to ensure that future generations benefit from ongoing research and clinical trials[1].

Organisational Development

Tragically, Aaron Gillin passed away in October 2017 at the age of 24. Despite this, Christopher continues to lead the foundation, maintaining its focus on spreading awareness and securing necessary funds for research and clinical trials on a larger scale[1]. The organisational shift in 2020 has enabled the foundation to expand its reach and increase its capacity to support health and medical research programs in Warrnambool, Victoria[3][4].

Legal Status

The Gillin Boys Foundation Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Warrnambool Inc. operates under the Australian Business Number (ABN) 20 962 113 034 and is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). This registration supports its activities related to health and medical research[2].
