On Monday YACSA Policy Officer, Georgia, and Digital Communications Officer, Mallory attended the National Youth Sexual Health Summit hosted by the Youth Advisory Board of the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, La Trobe University at MOD. The summit explored the recommendations from the Youth Advisory Board for a national sexual health and wellbeing framework co-designed by young people, including access to safe, reliable and factual information, education on consent, sexism and rape culture, and support for caregivers of school-aged young people. Central to these recommendations is the involvement of young people and their expertise, which is particularly emphasised by recommendation 14, ‘Young people be actively involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of sexual health and wellbeing education, policies and systems that affect them.' Back in April, as part of the 2025 Youth Impact Summit, we facilitated a consultation session to capture young people’s ideas on how to drive real change in their local communities and increase engagement in youth groups, such as council run youth advisory committees. Young people’s message to decision-makers is clear: they are active members of their communities already driving change, but are eager to do more – not someday, but right now. Today we are releasing the resources developed from this session, summarising the experiences, bold ideas, and practical priorities of South Australian young people. Councils, governments, and community organisations are encouraged to use these insights as they plan and deliver programs, policies, and services to better support and engage young people.
