75 years after the nation’s Archbishops and Bishops called on Australians to welcome and support migrants, Catholics are being urged to do the same today. The BCELM (Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry) has published a letter, titled ‘Under the Southern Cross: A Journey of Faith and Unity’, on the 75th anniversary of the 1950 Pastoral Letter on Immigration. Echoing the original, the new Letter calls “for us to become a living witness to hope and to build a community that recognise migrants and refugees as brother and sister, part of a family which they can express their talents and participate fully in their new community life.” The full text can be found here (fb)
