Sometimes the best way to stay grounded in our mission is to get our boots on the ground. Our Accounting for Nature team stepped away from the desk yesterday and into the stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland for a day dedicated to reconnecting – with nature, and with each other. We wandered through towering eucalypts, listened to whipbirds echo through the trees, and soaked in the beauty of the landscapes we work every day to protect. It wasn’t just a walk in the woods – it was a reminder of why we do what we do. These landscapes are more than data points or baselines. They’re living systems. And spending time in them reinforces our commitment to rigorous, science-backed environmental accounting that supports real-world outcomes for nature. We also made a special stop to see birds from all over the world – many of them rescues or rehabilitated – showcasing brilliant colours, curious personalities, and offering a vibrant reminder of the global value of biodiversity and the importance of care and conservation. Heading to the 32nd International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB)? We’re excited to be presenting at ICCB 2025 – sharing new thinking and practical guidance on measuring the state of nature and attributing conservation impact. 🗓 Sunday 15 June, 9am–1pm Pre-congress forum: Global guidance on determining reference states for measuring the state of nature Join Dr Molly Grace and Chrissy Elmer as we explore how to define appropriate reference states – a foundational step in consistent, transparent biodiversity assessment and environmental accounting. 🗓 Wednesday 18 June, 8:30–10:30am Symposium presentation: Future Directions for Counterfactual Evaluation of Conservation Interventions Molly will present work developed through a research partnership between Accounting for Nature and the University of Oxford, focused on guidelines for attributing positive impact using counterfactual approaches. We’ll share best-practice recommendations and examples across different applications, including nature credit markets and TNFD-aligned reporting.
