Home | Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal | FRRR

The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) partners with philanthropy, governments and business to support remote, rural & regional communities. We’re the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, or FRRR (F-triple-R) for short. A not-for-profit organisation, we connect common purposes and funding from government, business and philanthropy with the genuine needs of rural people and places. FRRR is the only national foundation specifically focused on ensuring social and economic strength in rural, regional & remote areas of Australia by aligning government, philanthropic and local community purpose and investment. FRRR provides funding and capacity building support at the hyperlocal level. We have reach, relationships, networks, and knowhow to align funding, big and small, to communityled solutions that build resilience and longterm viability and vitality of smaller remote, rural, and regional communities across Australia.

Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering social and economic resilience in rural, regional, and remote areas of Australia. Established in 2000 by the Australian Government and the Sidney Myer Fund, FRRR works to provide a sustainable social and economic future for these communities through partnerships with government, business, and philanthropic entities[3][4].

Mission and Objectives

FRRR's mission is to champion the economic and social strength of rural and regional Australian communities by supporting projects that enhance social, cultural, environmental, and economic outcomes. The foundation achieves this by providing seed funding for community-led initiatives, which are often difficult to secure through traditional funding channels[4].

Grant Making and Impact

FRRR is recognized for its wide grant-making capabilities, allowing it to distribute funds to both tax-deductible and non-tax-deductible organizations. This flexibility is crucial in reaching small, grassroots, not-for-profit organizations that are best positioned to understand and address local needs[4]. Over its operational history, FRRR has distributed more than AUD 200 million through approximately 15,000 grants[1].

Operations and Structure

FRRR is classified as a tax concession charity and is listed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), making donations to the organization tax deductible[4]. Its operational structure emphasizes collaboration with various stakeholders, including philanthropists, corporate partners, and government agencies, to amplify its impact and leverage collective resources for community development[1][5].

Recognition and Partnerships

FRRR has garnered significant support from prominent philanthropists and corporate Australia, marking important milestones such as its 25th anniversary. These partnerships underscore FRRR's role in bridging gaps between urban and rural Australia by fostering strong relationships between sectors[1].

Indigenous Acknowledgement

FRRR acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which it operates, paying respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present. This acknowledgment reflects FRRR's commitment to respecting and supporting the cultural heritage of Australia's First Peoples[1].
