“When there is no support you’ve got to push yourself. Being in children’s services there is a lot of support that you don’t realise, so when you come out of that and you have to push yourself it is more difficult because there is no one telling you right from wrong. It’s on you. The consequences are on you.” – A young survivor of modern slavery As young survivors of modern slavery turn 18 and transition to adulthood, they are forced to navigate a web of complex systems and services in their recovery. Sadly, many are left in a precarious position due to gaps between housing, healthcare and legal protection policies. In our new report, ‘Avoiding the cliff edge: working with young survivors of modern slavery as they turn 18’, we highlight the lived experiences of young adults and offer recommendations to improve the current system of support.
