NSW AECG is an independent Aboriginal community controlled organisation and is recognised as the peak advisory body on Aboriginal education and training in NSW. The NSW AECG Inc. was established in 1976 with a mandate to provide advice on all matters relating to Aboriginal education and training that reflects the viewpoint of the Aboriginal community. The NSW AECG is a nonprofit Aboriginal community based organisation that provides service, advocacy and advice on, and lobbies the NSW Government in relation to education related policies and programs on behalf of Aboriginal people in NSW. It operates programs that support and build capacity of Aboriginal people and communities at the grassroots level for better education outcomes. It educates NSW teachers, principals and government employees with respect to Aboriginal cultural awareness to equip them with knowledge to perform their roles more effectively for Aboriginal students.
