WACOSS

The Western Australian Council of Social Service is the peak body for the WA community sector. We delivered several projects that help those most vulnerable in Western Australia access services and elevate voices of people with lived experience of poverty. Our 100 Families project has commenced The Aboriginal Voice Project that aims to explore the responses of Aboriginal people involved. We led Pilbara Family and Domestic Violence Network which serves as a leading body for family and domestic violence and abuse reduction across the Pilbara region. We continued to provide consultation, feedback and policy advice on the Sustainable Health Review to the Department of Health across a range of recommendations. Our Community Relief and Resilience project supported WA Emergency Relief sector and people accessing its services. We commenced the WA Digital Inclusion project. This threeyear partnership project will bring together 26 partners, including leading community service organisations, along with digital partner NBN Co. It is an exciting threeyear project which will build the digital capacity of frontline community service workers and their clients; develop training programs for people to gain digital skills and qualifications to help them gain employment and volunteering opportunities; and provide a pilot for social housing tenancies to receive affordable devices and internet plans. We supported the sector during pandemic by supporting the sector by securing adequate supplies of personal protective equipment and rapid antigen tests, engaging a surge workforce, advocating for a sectorwide vaccine mandate, holding and facilitating webinars, and maintaining a current and uptodate portal of information and resources for the sector. We released a record number of submissions and reports, hosted many events and had a number policy achievements.
