It's 'Feel Good' Friday - Kingy Kids are community-minded kids Below is a retell about 2 of our boys - Ollie and Jack and the power of giving back. Last year, 10 days before Christmas, whilst driving past Tweed Valley Hospital Jack asked what happens with sick kids in hospital over Christmas time and Ollie wanted to know if Santa visits the hospital too. This led to a discussion about how hard it must be being away from the comforts of home and away from family and friends, especially at Christmas time and when you aren’t feeling your best and Jack instantly wanted to make a difference for our sick kids in hospital this year. He came up with the idea to deliver presents to the kids in hospital and from there we had lots of fun making gift bags and cards and writing beautiful messages and shopping for some gifts. Jack and Ollie wanted to deliver even more presents for the hospital, and we had a big discussion that by ourselves we can’t really make a massive difference, but we could call on our friends and together we could help spread happiness and Christmas Cheer to the Paediatric ward at the hospital. Together with their little sisters, Georgie and Elkie, we reached out to the community and our family and friends through social media, making a video asking for help and donations of new gifts, we also posted this on our local community pages. Jack collected the gifts at home in a collection box and began sorting them into different bags for a range of ages and interests. Some family and friends who didn’t live locally also did click and collect shopping for Jack to collect at local stores of things to add to the gift bags. In just under 10 days, together with our friends and the wider community were able to collect over 200 brand new gifts for our sick kids in hospital. We were absolutely blown away with the generous support of our friends and community. It was a such a beautiful day delivering over 14 gift bags filled to the brim with gifts and two big storage tubs filled with excess gifts for the hospital to use with kids when they are in hospital on special occasions or just being super brave after a tough day. We even paid a visit down to the nurses at the Emergency Department and dropped off a big bag of presents and another box for them to hand out to our kids in need too. It was such a beautiful lesson that when we work together, we can achieve big things! (fb)
