| Italy Strengthens Commitment to Vision Care and Inclusion | At yesterday’s “See More, Be More” meeting at the Chamber of Deputies, we reaffirmed a shared commitment to ensuring The Right To See for all. In Italy, the Foundation’s annual event is becoming a benchmark for vision health - an opportunity for government, health, and civil society leaders to advance how good vision drives inclusion and opportunity. Findings from the Eyecare Observatory, developed with Censis, formed the basis of this year’s discussion. The study revealed that 78.2% of vulnerable people forgo eye exams and 83.5% delay replacing their glasses - a stark reminder of how inequality still limits access to care. These insights underscored the urgency of expanding national screening programs and strengthening early detection within the public health system. Together, we are already shaping concrete next steps: the National Vision Prevention Plan, now under review by the Parliamentary Social Affairs Committee, and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice to provide free eye exams and eyeglasses in juvenile detention centers. Alongside these national efforts, the Foundation is also reimagining how care is delivered locally. In 2026, its vision centers in Italy will introduce Nuance Audio Hearing Glasses - which integrate vision and hearing care, addressing two of the most common barriers to social participation and quality of life.
