RSL Australia acknowledges the exceptional tenure of National President Major General Greg Melick AO RFD FANZCN KC (Retd), whose six-and-a-half-year presidency will conclude on 16 October 2025. Greg Melick has served the League as National President since 2019. He was reelected in 2022 and is the fifth-longest serving president since the RSL's establishment in 1916. Greg Melick leaves an enduring legacy that will extend far beyond his departure. The foundations established by Greg Melick and the National Board have positioned the League for future success, and the RSL National Office sincerely thanks him for his dedicated service to the veteran community. Today, we remember Trooper David Pearce. Trooper Pearce was serving with the Reconstruction Task Force in Uruzgan Province in Afghanistan. Early on 8 October 2007, as the patrol returned to Camp Russell at the Tarin Kowt multinational base, the ASLAV light armoured vehicle David was driving triggered an Improvised Explosive Device positioned on top of an anti-tank mine. The resulting explosion killed David instantly, and his crew commander was wounded. Trooper David Pearce, 41, was a highly dedicated, skilled, and professional soldier, a husband, and a father of two young daughters. He was a popular and well-respected member of his regiment, and the café at the multinational base at Tarin Kowt was named “Poppy’s” in his honour. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues on the anniversary of his tragic passing. Lest we forget. (fb)
