On day 4 of the 2025 Variety Red Centre 4WD Adventure we journeyed from Kulgera, the southernmost permanent settlement in the Northern Territory, stopping to say happy 70th birthday to Rosco, then passing Mt Cavenagh and Mt Connor (aka Foolaru) on our way to Curtin Springs Station, a working cattle station 1,000,000 acres in size. We were excited to travel through Aṉangu land and arrive at Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to two of the Australia’s most iconic geological formations: Uluṟu, the massive sandstone monolith, and Kata Tjuṯa, a collection of striking red rock domes. This evening we welcomed Principal Cae Ashton and School Council Chair Shaeleigh Swan from Yulara School for a very special presentation. Yulara School has 47 students ranging from preschool to year 12 with diverse backgrounds including Indigenous kids from the Mutitjulu community. Despite living in such an iconic location, the students often miss out on opportunities that are more readily available in larger regional or urban areas. Yulara School urgently needed an upgrade to provide students with clean, drinkable water, especially given scorching summer temperatures that often reach the mid-40s. Variety QLD was delighted to grant the school two water bubblers in collaboration with Variety - the Children’s Charity NT eliminating the need for the school to rely on bore water. We also provided EduKids (school) resources. Day 3 of the 2025 Variety Red Centre 4WD Adventure began with a group photo at Mt Dare Hotel. We then turned back to the Northern Territory, starting with the historic Dalhousie Homestead Ruins and Dalhousie Springs. The springs have been integral to Aboriginal life for thousands of years and were only discovered by Europeans in 1870 when surveyors working on the Overland Telegraph Line stumbled upon them. After a dip in the springs we then journeyed to Kulgera where we stopped at the Lambert Centre for a special surprise. The Lambert Centre monument marks the Geographic Centre of mainland Australia, and it was great to see Variety QLD’s plaque installed here with pride! This evening, we enjoyed an update on former Variety Heart Scholarship recipient and current Australian Paralympian, Brayden Foxley-Conolly. Brayden has had an incredible journey – overcoming childhood challenges living with a disability to finding empowerment in sport – with a little help from Variety.
