The Sebastian Foundation Ltd
The Sebastian Foundation Ltd is an Australian nonprofit organization established in 2013 by Guy and Jules Sebastian. The foundation is dedicated to youth mental health, focusing on proactive and early intervention approaches to build resilience and confidence among young Australians[2].
Mission and Focus
The primary mission of the Sebastian Foundation is to support young Australians in developing the skills necessary to manage mental health challenges, particularly during adolescence. Its core work involves funding schools to implement Open Parachute, a unique, in-school wellbeing program designed for students from Kindergarten through Year 12. This program uses real stories from peers to teach psychological skills that help students cope with the various challenges they may face during their school years. The foundation aims to create generational change through this early intervention approach, responding to alarming statistics about youth suicide and mental health issues in Australia[1][2].
Programs and Impact
Open Parachute is the foundation’s flagship program and has demonstrated significant impact in Australian schools. It is implemented in over 230 schools, reaching more than 208,000 students. Teachers report that 96% of students regularly use the skills taught by the program, and 98% of teachers find the lessons relatable to their students. These measurable and tangible outcomes align with the foundation’s philosophy of focusing on real results and maintaining lean operations with minimal overheads[1][2].
Operations and Philosophy
The Sebastian Foundation operates with a lean structure, consisting of one part-time staff member and no physical office, relying heavily on voluntary input and support. The foundation emphasizes transparency and accountability by quantifying the impact of its programs and funding. Its logo symbolizes the uniqueness of each young person, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to providing a loving and supportive environment for youth to thrive[2].
Recognition
In 2024, the Open Parachute program won the Social Impact category at the Australian Good Design Awards, recognizing the program’s role in innovation, design, and positive social outcomes[1].
Additional Activities
Beyond its core educational programs, the foundation has also supported broader mental health initiatives, including services for women and families escaping violent situations[5].

As we approach the close of World Mental Health Month let’s take a moment to highlight the real, positive impact Open Parachute is having on Australian young people’s wellbeing – straight from the students themselves! It is so encouraging to see the language these young people are using, the new skills they’re applying to daily challenges, their self-awareness and empathy. This program is leading to real behaviour change, empowering young people to manage life’s challenges and look after themselves and their peers. Applications are flooding in from schools in need of our funding support to implement Open Parachute in 2026. With Open Parachute’s support, it costs us just $15 to fund one student for a whole year. Your small donation can make a huge impact. Thank you to everyone who is helping us prepare Aussie kids for a much brighter future. 🙏❤️ (fb)
World Mental Health Day is a day to recognise the importance of meaningful connections. Connections with friends and family, colleagues, neighbours, your community. Let today serve as a reminder to check in on those around you. Be conscious of the importance of connection and communication. Thank you to all the teachers and school principals who are prioritising their students’ wellbeing and helping them feel connected. You play such an important role for our young people. 🙏🩶 #wmhd2025 #connectwithyourcommunity (fb)

Supporting youth mental health 15 funds one student for one year. DONATE NOW Why. These statistics are frightening. Only a proactive early intervention approach will create generational change.
