North East Multicultural Association Incorporated
The North East Multicultural Association Incorporated (NEMA) is a nonprofit organization based in Victoria, Australia, dedicated to promoting multiculturalism and providing support to the migrant community in the North East region. Established in February 2005, NEMA was one of eight ethnic councils in Victoria at the time of its founding, specifically serving the Rural City of Wangaratta, Benalla, and the Alpine, Mansfield, and Indigo Shires.
History
NEMA's establishment was spearheaded by Rozi Parisotto, a councillor in Wangaratta who recognized the need for cultural support services for migrants in the area. Her personal experience, witnessing her mother struggle without suitable cultural support, motivated her to create a "Voice for Multiculturalism in North East Victoria." This initiative brought together collaborative efforts from five local government areas to provide assistance to existing and new migrants.
Rozi Parisotto served as the president of NEMA from its inception until mid-2013. The organization was officially launched at The Wangaratta Art Gallery on September 12, 2005.
Mission and Services
NEMA's mission is centered on promoting cultural diversity and inclusion. It serves as a community hub where culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) individuals can meet, access information, and participate in various classes and activities. The organization offers a range of services, including:
- English Language Support: Providing classes to help migrants improve their English skills.
- Immigration Consultations: Offering guidance and advice on immigration-related matters.
- Advocacy: Advocating for the rights and interests of the migrant community.
- IT Support: Assisting with technology-related issues.
- Driving Instructions: Helping individuals prepare for driving tests and navigating transportation.
- Socialization: Facilitating community events to foster social interaction and belonging.
NEMA also celebrates cultural events like Harmony Day and Chinese New Year, promoting cultural exchange and understanding.

NEMA operates under the values of inclusivity, respect, and community support, striving to create a vibrant, diverse social fabric in the North East region of Victoria. It welcomes all cultures and seeks to build bridges between different communities.
