Good Return Limited
Good Return Limited is an Australian-based nonprofit organization focused on empowering disadvantaged groups, primarily women, through financial inclusion and education in the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 2003 as an offshoot of World Education, it was later rebranded and expanded its scope to become a leading fintech for social change.
Mission and Vision
The mission of Good Return is to achieve economic empowerment for marginalized communities through responsible financial inclusion and capability development. Its vision is to create a world without poverty where everyone has access to resources and opportunities for improving their lives[2].
Program Areas
Good Return operates across several key areas to achieve its objectives:
-
Financial Education and Consumer Empowerment: Good Return delivers programs in financial education to enhance the money management skills of low-income households and women. This includes using innovative platforms like the RIF Academy, an e-learning tool designed to build more inclusive financial practices[1][4].
-
Impact Investment: The organization supports socially-driven small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through its Impact Investment fund. This focus aims to boost businesses run by marginalized groups, contributing to economic growth in their communities[1][4].
-
eLearning for Responsible Inclusive Finance: By leveraging technology, Good Return promotes responsible and inclusive financial practices across the Asia-Pacific region. This includes strategic partnerships with financial institutions to improve access to ethical finance for women and other excluded groups[4].
Regional Presence
Good Return has a field presence in several countries, including Australia, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands, and Tonga. Its approach emphasizes local partnerships, collaborating with low-income households, NGOs, financial service providers, and regulatory bodies to drive transformative change[4].
Operations and Impact
The organization assists in providing microfinance and financial training, enabling individuals, especially women, to build their own income-generating businesses. This approach also includes building platforms to connect lenders with poor entrepreneurs seeking credit, facilitating economic participation among marginalized communities[5].
Good Return's efforts have led to significant improvements in fundraising and efficiency. It has increased funds raised in Australia and streamlined processes through technology, making it easier for supporters to donate or reinvest in microloans[5].
Compliance and Partnerships
Good Return is fully accredited with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and adheres to the ACFID Code of Conduct[4]. It also serves as the Network Convenor for the Frontier Brokers Network, a group of impact investment firms adopting a gender lens investing approach[4].

GUY WINSHIP AWARDEE - OM PRAKASH SHAH In honour of Good Return’s founder, Guy Winship, the Guy Winship Award supports the continuation of Guy’s enduring work towards a world without poverty. Each year we select one staff member from a partner organisation in one of our Asia Pacific markets to develop their professional skills through participation in quality training and capacity-building programs. Om Prakash Shah, from Sahara Nepal Saving & Credit Co-operative Society Ltd, a local community microfinance group, was our awardee in 2020 however, he was unable to use his award until recently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Om participated in a conference in Manila focused on sharing experiences with other social business leaders and entrepreneurs, as well as attending the “3 Zero Club” convention, focused on zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration to end poverty, and zero unemployment by unleashing entrepreneurship in all. Om also took the opportunity to meet with Ashi, a Microfinance organisation in the Philippines. Om shared, “It was such a life-changing opportunity for me, and my biggest takeaway was that collaboration, innovation, and shared experience are the most important enablers for positive change.” (fb)
At Good Return we continuously monitor and update our Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) policy - because the world doesn’t stand still, and neither do the challenges people face. A key focus is INTERSECTIONALITY - the way different forms of exclusion, like gender, disability, race, and socioeconomic status, stack up and intensify disadvantage and exclusion. By taking a holistic approach, we can identify people facing multiple layers of prejudices and design programs to effectively target the full picture of inequality. Take People Living with Disabilities as an example. They’re often excluded from their communities due to damaging misconceptions about their abilities and potential contributions. The barriers don’t stop there - aid and development programs are rarely built with accessibility in mind, and they often lack the tools to engage with this community effectively. The result? A deep compounding exclusion for the people who have the greatest needs. That’s why our approach looks beyond single-issue solutions.. We tackle the intersecting barriers people face through evidence-based interventions, impact assessments, and continuous learning, so that every program meets the diverse needs of the people we serve and NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.
