Yesterday, Mrs Anna McKenzie and Ms Penny Williams attended the Premier’s VCE Awards at the Convention Centre to support five of our students who were recognised for their achievements in VCE 2024. Millie Nilsen was recognised as a Top All-Round VCE Achiever. She also received a Literature Award. Rhea Werner and Nadia Mohamed won an English Award. Lily Zhou won a Media Award. Last week, a group of Year 9s, accompanied by Deputy Principal, Ms Lisa Hanlon and Principal Natalie Charles, were lucky enough to attend a luncheon hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce, to hear Ms. Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, speak. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has served as the 49th governor of Michigan since 2019 and is a leading figure of the Democratic Party. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served as a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee from 21 January 2021 until 1 February 2025. In a warm and wide-ranging conversation, Governor Whitmer discussed trade and investment opportunities between Michigan and Australia; the importance of relationships in politics and in life, and how, through hard work, kindness, and authenticity, she has sought to strengthen trust across both sides of the political divide. It was an experience the girls will not forget, made all the more special by having our own Lucy L sing the American National Anthem at the start of the lunch. (fb)
