The Boneo Park Wetland Trust is a nonprofit organization based in Australia, focusing on the preservation and educational promotion of environmentally significant wetlands. The organization operates within the context of Boneo Park, a vast property located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.

Overview

Boneo Park spans over 340 hectares, featuring diverse landscapes including wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands. It is renowned for its biodiversity, hosting over 160 species of birds and numerous native flora. The park is home to the iconic Moonah trees, covering about 60 hectares of the property[1][2].

Mission and Activities

The Boneo Park Wetland Trust primarily aims to provide an educational platform for the community, highlighting the importance of wetland conservation. It participates in events like World Wetlands Day to promote awareness about these ecosystems[3].

Conservation Efforts

The wetland and woodland areas within Boneo Park are protected under a conservation covenant with Trust for Nature, ensuring their preservation in perpetuity. This commitment aligns with broader conservation efforts in the Mornington Peninsula, which is rich in indigenous fauna and flora[1][5].

Public Engagement

While Boneo Park is a private property, it offers guided walks during certain times of the year, allowing visitors to explore the wetlands, enjoy birdwatching, and appreciate the scenic landscapes. The park also accommodates equestrian activities and features a restaurant that utilizes local produce[1][2].

Organizational Status

The Boneo Park Wetland Trust is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), ensuring its operation aligns with nonprofit standards[3][4].

Cultural Acknowledgement

Boneo Park acknowledges the Bunurong people as the traditional custodians of the land and waters[2].

The trust's activities contribute to preserving these valuable natural assets while promoting environmental education and conservation throughout the region.

Enjoy the Wetlands Beyond the equestrian centre and Arilla restaurant Boneo Park has a quite extraordinarily biodiverse natural landscape of 300 hectares right in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. There are more than ten kilometres of trails through the wetland woodland and grassland of this unique property. Most of the freshwater Tootgarook Wetland is in Boneo Park providing habitat for 160 bird species. There are hundreds of native plant species in the wetland and woodland with 60 hectares of the iconic Moonah the beautiful gnarly old trees of southern Victoria.
