It was 4am when Lily fell out of her parent’s bed, convulsing and turning blue, gripped by her first tonic-clonic seizure. “I couldn’t find a pulse and I’m a nurse,” said Lily’s mum, Nicole, “I felt helpless”. Little did they know, this moment would forever mark the beginning of a relentless battle with epilepsy – countless seizures, medical appointments, harsh side effects – all faced by a 13-year-old girl simply trying to live a normal life. After that first seizure, the family were told it was ‘just a one-off’ and not to worry about it. But four months later, their worst fear came true; another tonic-clonic seizure. Straight to the hospital they went, and while waiting to have an EEG, Lily had yet another seizure. “When we looked to the medical community for information and guidance, it just wasn’t there. It was only when we found our way to Epilepsy Queensland that things started to turn around.” That one phone call made all the difference for Lily and Nicole. With a donation of just $29 this tax-time, you can make sure our compassionate and knowledgeable team can do the same for other families across Queensland. Give generously, and help kids like Lily reimagine their future: bit.ly/EQ_TA25 (fb)
Imagine living with a condition that can, without warning, turn an ordinary moment into one of confusion and vulnerability. That’s epilepsy. And it’s the reality for a staggering 1 in 25 Australians, just like Lily. You can help Queenslanders with epilepsy rebuild their lives, reconnect with their communities and reimagine their future. Give generously, and turn your tax time donation into live-changing support: bit.ly/EQ_TA25 (fb)
