On Wednesday, in collaboration with Multicultural Youth Link of South Australia (MYLSA), we convened something special! More than 180 young people, community members, leaders and partners gathered at U City for the 2025 Youth Forum — Our Stories, Our Strength, Our Future. Guided by MCs Adut and Yasin, the program wove together poetry, music, awards, conversations and interactive activities that highlighted the strength of young voices. Poetry by Marzila Osmani set a powerful tone, a moving Welcome to Country by Robert and Lynette Taylor grounded the gathering in respect for culture and Country, while music from Sahrat Band featuring Reem Daou and from Noni Espinoza lifted the room. We were honoured to hear from Hon. Mira El Dannawi MLC, representing Hon. Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, alongside Hon. Jing Lee MLC and Ms Mirsia Bunjaku, CEO of AMRC, whose words reminded us of the importance of youth voices, diversity and community leadership. The Youth Achievement Awards celebrated Lisa, Keenjal, Fatima and Mohadasa, who were honoured for courageously sharing their voices with ABC’s Behind the News (BTN). A panel discussion was facilitated by Ethan White, Deputy Mayor of Gawler and filmmaker, with insights from Country Fire Service volunteer Lorgio, Thebarton Senior College students Shamsia and Shaqayeq, TAFE SA student Nabila and West Beach Surf Life Saving Club volunteer Dini. Young people also engaged in the MYLSA “My Story, Our Future” activity and participated in a dynamic group activity with UN Youth SA. We thank our stallholders: One Culture Football, Bureau of Meteorology, Migration Museum, West Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Country Fire Service and UniSA as well as our special guests, partners, volunteers and supporters who helped make the day a success. At AMRC, we don’t just see young people as the leaders of tomorrow, we see them as leaders of today. We create spaces where their voice matters, where their skills can shine, and where their story is celebrated. We create opportunities for young people to connect, to grow, and to be heard. Empower. Celebrate. Unite. The Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) was honoured to be part of Glenunga International High School’s International Mindedness Day assembly, led by the inspiring Year 11 International Mindedness Council. Students chose AMRC as their partner, raising awareness and funds to support refugees, migrants and people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Our Senior Program Manager, Dilky Wijeyekoon, shared a keynote address on diversity, empowerment and unity, values that are central to AMRC’s mission. The feedback from students and staff showed the message truly resonated. This collaboration has already inspired further action, with students organising a charity volleyball game later this month in support of AMRC. A huge thank you to Glenunga International High School and students for their commitment, championing inclusion, compassion and unity. #AMRC #Inclusion #YouthLeadership #CALD #CommunityPartnerships #EmpowerCelebrateUnite (fb)
