Stroke and Disability Information Hunter Incorporated

Stroke and Disability Information Hunter Incorporated is an Australian nonprofit organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of stroke through education, information dissemination, support, and advocacy. It operates primarily within the Hunter region and focuses on assisting individuals affected by stroke and other disabilities.

Mission and Objectives

The core mission of Stroke and Disability Information Hunter Incorporated is to educate the community and healthcare workers about stroke, particularly highlighting the signs and symptoms and the critical importance of rapid response to save lives and reduce disabilities. The organisation also aims to minimize the physical, social, and emotional impacts of stroke on survivors and their carers through various support services and advocacy efforts[1][4].

Activities and Services

The organisation produces and disseminates a quarterly newsletter targeted at people who have experienced stroke and their carers, providing up-to-date information, resources, and support strategies[3]. It works collaboratively with refuges and government departments to organise housing for clients in need, which helps address some of the socio-economic challenges faced by stroke survivors[3].

Education initiatives include community outreach and health worker training to enhance awareness about stroke prevention and the necessity of immediate medical attention[4]. These programs strive to improve outcomes for stroke patients by promoting early intervention and informed care.

Team and Leadership

The organisation is staffed by professionals committed to stroke rehabilitation and support. Among them is Jordan, a registered Occupational Therapist with a specialized focus on aiding stroke survivors in their recovery and reintegration into daily life activities[2]. The team also engages with government representatives to advocate for policies and resources beneficial to stroke survivors and people with disabilities[5].

Governance and Registration

Stroke and Disability Information Hunter Incorporated is registered under Australian Business Number (ABN) 42276534705RR0001, ensuring compliance with Australian nonprofit regulatory standards. It maintains transparency and accountability by submitting documentation and annual reports to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)[3][4].
