The Australian National Piano Award is a biennial event that showcases Australia’s best young pianists, offering a total prize pool of $65,000. The Australian National Piano Award showcases some of Australia’s most brilliant emerging pianists The nature of the activities that occurred during the year were to finally hold the Award Competition for Australian based Pianists between the ages of 21 and 35. The Award Competition proceeded as scheduled after having been deferred due to COVID on two separate accasions, 2020 and 2021. Deferring the Competition involved increased expenditure on Consultancy for public relations, advertising and additional printing costs. The Competition week proceeded as planned up to the Friday of the event. At this time the venue and Shepparton in general was subject to a flood threat. The City of Greater Shepparton informed the Board that the venue would not be available for use on Saturday 15th October 2022, the scheduled Grand Final recital. After due consideration and consultation, the Board resolved to make the Semi Final concert being held on the 14th October 2022 the Grand Final recital. This revised event was satisfactorily completed and the Board is very pleased to report that all finalists and visitors were able to exit Shepparton prior to the Flood inundation. The organisation was able to achieve the overall mission and main aim of providing a competition for Australian based young Australian Pianists.
