Afghan Women on the Move Incorporated
Afghan Women on the Move Incorporated (AWOTM) is an Australian nonprofit organization focused on supporting Afghan and multicultural women in achieving holistic well-being, including physical, mental, spiritual, and financial independence. Registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), the organization provides tailored programs to address the challenges faced by newly arrived refugees, particularly women from Afghanistan and other diverse backgrounds[2][4].

Programs and Services
AWOTM delivers life skills training, mental health support, and community-building initiatives, creating safe spaces for social gatherings and skill development[2][4]. Their approach emphasizes empowerment through education, peer support, and access to resources, aiming to help participants transition from survival to thriving in their new environments[1][3].

Leadership
Founded by Maryam Zahid, the organization draws on her personal journey as a refugee from Afghanistan. Zahid’s story of resilience, including overcoming trauma and rebuilding her life in Australia, has shaped AWOTM’s mission[1][5]. Under her leadership, the organization collaborates with partners and supporters to expand its impact, addressing systemic barriers faced by migrant women[5].

Impact
Through workshops, outreach, and advocacy, AWOTM has become a critical resource for women navigating settlement challenges, cultural adjustment, and economic participation in Australia[3][4]. The organization’s work has been recognized in media and community networks, highlighting its role in fostering long-term self-sufficiency among participants[1][5].
