From community walks to festivals, NAIDOC Week was a special time for our organisation to celebrate the strength, resilience and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Among the many programs at SSI marking NAIDOC’s 50th anniversary, our Local Area Coordination teams were out in full force at events across Sydney, helping community members access vital supports and services. As the first point of contact for people with disability, our LAC teams are more than just a presence in the communities they serve. NAIDOC Week was a powerful opportunity to stand in solidarity, listen, celebrate, and connect with First Nations communities. The Spirit of Welcome, in action 💛 Locals and new arrivals came together to honour Refugee Week with open hearts and open arms last month at our Spirit of Welcome festival. Families, friends, and neighbours, both new and old, enjoyed live performances, powerful art by refugee artists, delicious food from around the world, and performances that needed no translation. Co-hosted with Inner West Council and Community Refugee Welcome Centre, this special day reminded us that true belonging is built through everyday acts of welcome.
