Victorian Blind Cricket Association Incorporated
Overview
The Victorian Blind Cricket Association Incorporated is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and organizing blind cricket in Victoria, Australia. With a rich history dating back to 1922, it was in Melbourne where blind cricket was first invented[1][3]. The association plays a pivotal role in enabling individuals who are blind or vision impaired to engage in both recreational and competitive aspects of the sport.
History and Development
Blind cricket was innovated in Melbourne in 1922, marking a significant milestone in adaptive sports. The first sports ground and clubhouse specifically designed for blind individuals were established at Kooyong, Melbourne in 1928, and this venue remains the home of the Victorian Blind Cricket Association today[1][3].
Operations and Objectives
The association manages both competitive and social games within Victoria, ensuring participation in national events. It aims to foster integration by participating in matches against sighted teams, aligning with its philosophy to remove barriers for visually impaired individuals[1][2]. The Victorian Blind Cricket Association also participates in the National Cricket Inclusion Championships, which brings together teams from across Australia to compete in an inclusive environment[1].
Activities and Programs
The organization focuses on developing opportunities for blind and vision-impaired individuals, leveraging cricket as a tool for promoting social and recreational benefits[1]. The games are adapted for visually impaired players, with the pitch maintaining standard dimensions, but incorporating auditory elements such as a white plastic ball containing metal washers to provide sound[1].
Impact and Community Role
By offering a structured environment for blind cricket, the Victorian Blind Cricket Association provides a platform that enhances the quality of life for its participants. It encourages physical activity, social interaction, and community engagement, contributing to the well-being of individuals with visual impairments in Victoria[4]. The association's activities help to break down barriers and promote inclusivity within sports, reflecting its commitment to disability sports[4].

Great to see so many players for our first centre wicket training session yesterday. Perfect opportunity to develop skills, team connection and bash a few balls around beautiful Fawkner Park. #blindcricket #inclusivesport Image description: group of 15 men and women blind cricket players in VBCA uniform gathered around a set of stumps, facing the camera. In addition to his formal responsibilities to CV, Johnny has kindly volunteer his time and energy to coaching and mentoring all VBCA players this season. We are very grateful for this commitment to the development of our members, so please ensure you get around Johnny and support him in his new role!
