The traditional meaning of Maljah Cathy Snow's grandfather’s name – floodwaters – inspired her to create artworks about water themes, including salt and freshwater mussels, water birds and plants, and the complex patterning of tidal water marks. See her works in the exhibition Maljah Cathy Snow: BARRLIN – Wet ground, which is supported by the Double R Arts Foundation. Exhibition runs until 14 Sep 25. Free entry. No bookings required. This fabric is also for sale on a print on demand basis in our Gallery Shop and online shop. 📷 Maljah Cathy SNOW Gkuthaarn b.1954, Normanton, Queensland Yabbies 2025, digital print on Panama cotton canvas. In 1998, Cairns Regional Gallery (now Cairns Art Gallery) presented Ilan Pasin: Torres Strait Art, which was the first major exhibition of Torres Strait Islander art presented in Australia. These photos show the grand opening celebration of the exhibition, which eventually toured public galleries across Australia, introducing new audiences to historical and contemporary art and culture of Torres Strait Islander people. This exhibition forms part of the Cairns Art Gallery online First Nations Research Archive, developed as part of the Gallery’s online Legacy Archive to celebrate the Gallery’s 30th anniversary.
