Brisbane Women's Club

Home

A charitable institution with more than a century of history supporting and advancing the influence of women in Brisbane. BWC is a club for people to come together and collectively make Brisbane a better place for women to live, work and realise their dreams. We do this through delivering a range of events and initiatives that make positive changes for Brisbane women. BWC achieved our goals in FY22 through a number of initiatives: Through the BWC Events Program we were able to UNITE women of Brisbane by holding informal networking events Meet and Mingle Professional Series connecting members, guests and inspirational Brisbane women. We also held a number of social activities including our Saturday Soiree, Christmas High Tea and Ladies Long lunch. Through the BWC Charitable Giving Program we were able to UPLIFT the charitable work of others supporting local Brisbane women by gifting $5,000 to Reason to Thrive for its equine assisted learning ReBuild program supporting women of all ages who had experienced domestic violence. We were also able to donate $1,000 to each of Lovewell Foundation, 4Voices and Red Rose Australia to continue their own charitable work; and contribute $365 to The Women s College at UQ for the refurbishment of The Women s College playhouse. We held a number of successful goods drives where our community collected clothing for Royal Brisbane Women s Hospital Foundation, pantry items for 4Voices, notebooks for Lovewell Foundation and new/preloved bras for Support the Girls. Through some very important projects we were able to further UPHOLD the women of Brisbane. In partnership with Red Rose Foundation Australia BWC sponsored and arranged for the installation of two red benches to help profile conversations about bringing an end to domestic violence in our community. We were thrilled to have Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner and Deputy Mayor Councillor Krista Adams in attendance at Lovewell Café, Mt Gravatt along with board members from Red Rose Foundation, Lovewell Foundation and council members from Brisbane City Council. Early in 2022 Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner joined us again as we partnered with The Women s College at UQ to sponsor the installation of a red bench on the college campus. We were joined by collect student and faculty representatives along with BWC members and guests. We also donated $2,500 for the production of a short film highlighting domestic violence issues, The Wilted Rose which was being produced locally in Brisbane by a fantastic female director, Elise Lamb, in partnership with The Centre for Women & Co and will be screened in FY23. We formed a team to raise money and participated in the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney General s Darkness to Daylight walk held in June. Along the walk we were informed of a number of staggering statistics regarding the impact of domestic violence in our community. The BWC Board also reviewed and updated our strategic governance documents including a refresh of our Vision, Mission, Purpose and Values to guide all our activities in 2022 and beyond.
