First Year Agriculture NZ tour wrap Our first year Agriculture students capped off a full two weeks on the road with visits that showed real breadth across New Zealand’s primary industries. After visits to Hopefield Hemp, Garston Hops, and Glenaray Station, the itinerary moved from sea to high country and from research labs to large scale commercial operations. Highlights included a look at the New Zealand Abalone Company in Bluff and time with the McCrae family at Mokoreta and Craig Whiteside near Clinton, where cropping diversity and relentless trial work stood out. At Invermay Research Station the students saw how crown research translates into on farm impact. Further north, Te Mania hosted another amazing visit and marked the halfway point of the tour, before a visit to High Peak Station showed why diversification and succession planning matter. Back in Lincoln, students stepped through current research at DairyNZ and the Lincoln University Demonstration Farm before heading to Prices Valley to hear from Matt Iremonger at Willesden Farm. The final days featured visits to Lovett Farms in Ashburton on vegetables and broadacre systems and Clayton Station near Fairlie on high country grazing, before wrapping at Bog Roy Station near Omarama.
