Our Year 9–11 Art, Design and Media Exhibition ‘The Space We Take’ opens Thursday 28 August, 5.00pm–7.00pm at our Motor Works Visual Arts Precinct. This year’s exhibition showcases the creative voices of our students through sculpture, photography, painting, drawing and digital media. Each work offers a unique perspective on how young people navigate and reshape the spaces they occupy – physical, emotional, cultural and imagined. On Thursday Island, cars are costly, taxis are scarce, and walking in the tropical heat with young children and shopping bags is no easy feat. But when Old Melburnian Sarah Tedder (OM 2007) arrived in 2023, she saw a way to change how the island moves - one bicycle at a time. Her idea has sparked a community-wide shift, with shipping containers of bikes, a “bike hospital,” and even a bike-to-school bus led by the Mayor.
