Permanent Care & Adoptive Families

PCA Families is a member-based organisation that provides support to families formed through kinship care, permanent care and adoption. www.pcafamilies.org.au During 2021/22 we responded to over 2,500 helpline calls, processed 1,282 flexible funding applications, distributed $3,068,00 in funds to eligible families, hosted 30 peer support group sessions including two retreats which were held face to face in regional Victoria. We welcomed 466 new members with families reporting real benefits from accessing the emotional, practical and financial support we provided, as well as links to other services helping fill the gap in availability of support post permanent care orders or adoption. We supported our families through COVID19, responding to their issues which included financial stress, family stability, mental health and well being concerns, family contact issues, personal and emotional support and remote learning and education issues. We have ensured permanent care and adoptive families are heard and supported, resulting in additional government funding to address COVID19 issues and obtaining long term increases in flexible funding. Our peer support groups remained online to help our families during COVID19 to combat isolation although at the end of the financial year we did meet face to face. Our programs have contributed to the children in our families continuing to be part of strong, stable and permanent family during an incredibly stressful time.
