Sunday July 6 marked the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week—a time to honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. There are so many ways to get involved—attend a local event, join a community activity, or take time to learn more about First Nations cultures. At CCV, we’re proud to walk alongside community. Recently, our team joined the final leg of the 500km Walk for Truth, led by the Yoorrook Justice Commission—a powerful moment marking the end of a four-year truth-telling inquiry. Sleeping out in 0 degrees wasn’t how we pictured a Friday night in June — but for too many Victorians, there’s no other option. On Friday 13 June, CatholicCare Victoria (CCV) team members joined sector colleagues, community leaders and supporters for the first-ever Ballarat Corporate and Community Sleepout. Braving the cold alongside our Central Highlands Homelessness Alliance partners, we came together to raise awareness of homelessness and raise funds for vital local programs. Attendees heard from Juliana Addison MP, who spoke about the importance of addressing homelessness in our community. Taking part in the Sleepout gave our team a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by those without a safe place to call home. It strengthened our commitment to the work we do every day, supporting individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. With over $8,000 raised, all funds will go directly towards local homelessness programs coordinated by the Central Highlands Homelessness Alliance.
