The Younger Heroes (TYH) is a three day nature program disconnected from the outside world to reconnect current or ex serving ADF members and child/ren. Learning communication skills and strengthening relationships through shared activities and story’s. The Younger Heroes (TYH) Program is a family relationship focused program, supporting participants (parents and their children) in connecting with their loved ones. This program is particularly relevant for individuals (parents) who may have experienced time away from their families as result of their employment (Military, Policing and other First Responders), or those individuals whose work experience/environments may have impacted their family connection or tempered their communication/relationship with their family (i.e., traumatic exposure, direct communication styles, hierarchical command structure etc.,). TYH program focuses on four core objectives: 1. Strengthening Family Bonds 2. Building Personal Resilience 3. Enhancing Communication 4. Encouraging Teamwork In addition to the four core objectives, TYH Program is a naturebased activity, which limits technological distractions (phone and computers) and facilitates physical activity and experiential learning opportunities. TYH Program is built upon sound psychological practices and principles in addition to the experiential learning processes and inclusion with nature. Further work is proposed in regards to having TYH program independently assessed by University endorsed methodology, in order to formalise the program structure/format and optimise program efficacy.
