🌊 Habitat Boost for the Collie River! 🐟🌿 What a week! The Danju crew teamed up with LCC project officer Rachel Allan to deliver a week of hands-on conservation work on the southern branch of the Upper Collie River. Together, they constructed and installed a range of habitat structures designed to support our precious native aquatic species such as night fish, freshwater cobbler, western minnow, western pygmy perch and marron—while giving them shelter from invasive introduced predators like redfin perch. Among the structures installed were fish hotels built at last month’s community construction day—a big thank you to everyone who came along to help build and to those who generously donated materials. Your contributions are now sitting proudly in the river, supporting the recovery of this vital aquatic ecosystem. 💚 On Thursday, we were joined by some awesome students from the Collie Clontarf Academy, who rolled up their sleeves to help build and install more fish hotels and habitat features. The students also had the chance to learn from LCC project staff, Steve Purcell from OzFish, scientists from the Healthy Rivers team, and the skilled Danju crew. A special thanks to Cultural Monitor James Kahn, who shared powerful stories about the cultural significance of the river and the importance of caring for Country. It was a fantastic week of collaboration, culture, learning and action for our waterways. 💧 This highly collaborative project is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program and South 32 Worsley. Further support has been provided by Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, OzFish Unlimited , and the Shire of Collie. (fb)
