Nalandra
Nalandra Australia is a Sakya/Tsarpa Buddhist centre. The Mind of Buddha's is practiced and delivered on body, speech and consciousness. Nalandra's religious, educational, cultural and international goals were met through the following activities which include meditation, teachings, discourses, classes, empowerments, pujas, practices, religious and cultural observances and anniversaries. These were primarily conducted by the Spiritual Director, H.E. Zim og Rinpoche. Rinpoche recommenced teaching from Sakya Pandita s sacred text 'Ordinary Wisdom: Sakya Pandita s Treasury of Good Advice' translated by John T. Davenport in Term 3 2021 and concluded this teaching in Term 4 2021. In Term 2 2022, Rinpoche started teaching from Niguma Cycle Stages in the Path of Illusion, Dakini Cycle from 'Niguma: Lady of Illusion'. Rinpoche also offered a Golden Light Sutra Transmission over five Wednesdays in Term 3 2021. In April 2022, Rinpoche offered a White Mahakala empowerment and led a fiveday White Mahakala Retreat at Nalandra. Dharma Discourses are complemented by a talk and guided meditation from Rinpoche on Saturdays during school term. Students continued to work through Shantideva s classic The Way of the Bodhisattva , each speaking for 8 minutes on a set number of verses. In May 2022, a Buddhism 101: Basic Foundations Course was held. It was presented by a senior student and consisted of four classes over two Sundays. Meditation For Life classes led by senior students were offered over four consecutive Thursdays in both March and June 2022. Padmasambhava tsoks and Green Tara pujas were held at Nalandra. 16 Arhat pujas were conducted on special occasions such as Losar (Tibetan New Year). The Tibetan community also celebrated Losar at Nalandra (with a Green Tara Puja). There was a Puja for Ukraine which included an Avalokiteshvara practice. Proceeds were directed to the Red Tara Care Fund, a fund set up to help families living in poverty in third world countries, particularly in Africa. The year also featured an Awakening Musical Evening on 27 November 2021 and a Nalandra Inauguration on 4 June 2022 during the Saga Dawa (Tibetan Vesak) month performed by Ven Phuoc Tan (Abbot, Quang Minh Temple) accompanied by sangha and temple community members. Rinpoche s Mahakala Grand Puja for World Peace was held from 2830 December 2021 at the Christmas Hills Mechanics Institute Hall. Each day included a Green Tara Puja followed by silent personal practice in the morning and the Mahakala Puja in the afternoon/evening. The year included a move to Healesville in July 2021 and associated working bees. The Centre s activities were promoted through various means including a newsletter, emails, the website and facebook. Nalandra also offers an online and onsite shop, the Tibet Outlet. The shop features homemade cottage industry goods from India and Nepal. Despite the constraints of Covid19 in the second half of 2021, it was a very successful year. Classes were broadcast by zoom and face to face classes held as permitted. Spiritual guidance, pastoral care and blessings were offered during the year.
