The LNG Marine Fuel Institute (LNG MFI) is an independent not for profit organisation established to promote the best practice use of LNG as a marine fuel. In conjunction with others including FEnEx (a Commonwealth Cooperative Research Centre (CRC)), the University of Melbourne and ARUP (global energy consultants), we have framed up a brief for Research & Development to be carried out over 36 months or so on a staged basis in order to get some accurate Australian data concerning the path to cleaner fuels in the maritime industry and their respective business cases.

LOWER EMISSIONS FOR ABETTER FUTURE The Clean Marine Fuel Institute Clean MFI is an independent not for profit organisation established to promote the best practice use of LNG as a marine fuel. THE FUTURE IS TODAY Every year ships emit 1000 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the Earths atmosphere this is the equivalent of 2. 5 of global emissions annually. A COMPELLING OPPORTUNITY REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS While theres no single pathway to a low emissions future expanding the use of LNG as a transition marine fuel is one way to help reduce GHG from shipping and help reduce this countrys environmental footprint.
