✨ What is the sound of Alice? ✨ When composing for our new production, Lucas is drawing upon a rich melting pot of inspiration, from the golden age of cinema and Broadway to the jazz rhythms of the 1930s. He speaks of lush, cinematic scores like The Wizard of Oz and King Kong, the syncopated energy of Charleston and foxtrots, and even the soulful influence of blues, ragtime, and boogie woogie. The Mad Hatter, he says, was the perfect character to play with those sounds. Each character in Wonderland, the Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, demanded its’ own musical voice. And while Lucas honours the flavours of the 1930s, he also weaves in his own stamp, creating something new for today. “For me, storytelling is everything,” he says. “Writing this score has been a joy.
