Queer Screen Limited

Queer Screen Limited is a nonprofit organization based in Australia, serving as the premier LGBTQIA+ film festival organization in the country. Its primary mission is to transform and engage individuals and communities through queer storytelling on screen. It accomplishes this by organizing film festivals and supporting queer filmmakers.

History and Festivals

Queer Screen hosts two major film festivals: the Mardi Gras Film Festival held in February and the Queer Screen Film Fest held in August. These events showcase a diverse range of queer stories and films from Australia and around the world.

Programs and Initiatives

In addition to the film festivals, Queer Screen operates several programs aimed at supporting queer filmmakers and storytelling. This includes initiatives like My Queer Career, which focuses on developing queer filmmaking talent.

Mission and Impact

Queer Screen's overarching goal is to celebrate the diversity of sexualities and gender identities through cinema. By promoting queer stories, it aims to empower individuals and communities, fostering inclusivity and representation on screen. The organization acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land it operates on and respects their culture.

Funding and Support

Queer Screen relies on donations and membership fees to continue its mission. Memberships offer discounts on festival tickets and priority entry, while donations directly support the organization's activities, including filmmaker development programs. The organization has introduced innovative donation methods, such as mobile apps, to facilitate regular contributions from supporters.

Governance

Queer Screen Limited operates under a constitution aligned with the Corporations Act 2001, ensuring it adheres to governance standards suitable for a nonprofit organization in Australia.

Community Engagement

The organization actively engages with the community, including partnerships with media outlets to promote its events and activities. This includes efforts to honor and respect Australia's traditional custodians, acknowledging their wisdom and resilience in the face of historical injustices.
