Arts and Cultural Exchange Inc.
Arts and Cultural Exchange Inc. (ACE) is an Australian nonprofit cultural organization based on Dharug Country in Western Sydney. Established in 1984, ACE is dedicated to advancing social justice and cultural diversity through creative community programs, with a strong emphasis on First Nations peoples and other under-represented communities in Western Sydney[2].
History and Background
Originally founded as the Holroyd-Parramatta Info Van, ACE began by distributing crucial information to disadvantaged populations in the area. In the early 1990s, the organization expanded its mission to incorporate arts and cultural development as essential means of community empowerment and self-expression. Reflecting this shift, the organization was renamed Information and Cultural Exchange before adopting the current name Arts and Cultural Exchange Inc., which better represents its core focus on cultural initiatives[2].
Mission and Guiding Principles
ACE’s work is grounded in the guiding principles of "First Nations first," diversity, and equity. It is committed to social justice and uses creativity as a tool to reverse disadvantage. The organization emphasizes interdisciplinary, intergenerational collaborative projects that are co-devised with the communities they serve, fostering cultural sustainability and empowerment[1][2].
Programs and Activities
The organization's programs are structured around five main pillars:
- First Nations: Supporting and commissioning works by Dharug and other First Nations artists to preserve culture and promote storytelling connected to Country.
- Youth Engagement: Providing creative opportunities and leadership development for young people.
- Multicultural Women: Empowering women from diverse cultural backgrounds through artistic activities.
- Neurodivergent Artists and Aged Care: Creating inclusive artistic platforms for neurodivergent individuals and the elderly.
- Screen: Developing screen-based projects that reflect community stories and perspectives[1][2].
A notable project is "Dharug Voices," which celebrates the culture, legacy, and connection of the Dharug people by producing new works that link art to the land, fostering a deep reconnection with Country and cultural heritage[1].
Funding and Status
ACE is an Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient status, allowing donors to claim tax deductions for contributions over $2.00. The organization sustains its operations through grants from government departments and foundations, venue and equipment hires, and donations[2].
Community Impact
With a longstanding reputation in Western Sydney, ACE is recognized for its commitment to social justice through the arts, supporting emerging and established First Nations artists, and fostering cultural diversity. The organization continues to play a key role in amplifying voices from under-represented communities, contributing significantly to the cultural fabric of the region[3].

The May edition of A Western Sydney Book Club features Ghost Cities by Siang Lu. This whip-smart satire dives into the absurdity of celebrity culture and the complexities of racial identity in the entertainment industry. Both funny and unsettling, it’s a sharp commentary on the masks we wear—and what lies beneath. Don’t miss this inventive and thought-provoking read. Join us Fri, 30 May @ ACE Parramatta. We work on the lands skies and waters of the Burramadagal of the Dharug and we pay our respects to their Ancestors and Elders past present and emerging. Their ceremonies stories traditions and spirit live and remain. We honour their custodianship seen and unseen. First Nations first diversity and equity are our guiding principles.
