We are proud to once again have supported and hosted UQ Justice and the Law Society (JATL) and their well-attended yearly Beyond Eagle Street Drinks event. JATL, as always, facilitates this fantastic event which brings together a wide range of students, alumni, and legal professionals, from community legal centres to the Supreme Court. With more than 60 attendees present, it was fantastic to see people connecting and engaging in thoughtful conversations about exploring various legal pathways. A standout moment of the evening was the keynote from Candice Hughes, who shared her insightful and realistic snapshot on life in community legal service. Ann-Maree David, Executive Director QLD for The College of Law Australia, also had the pleasure of sharing her experienced insights with audiences and had a great time speaking with many valued colleagues in attendance. Congratulations to JATL President, Grace Beattie; VP Careers, Tamika Dalby; and the JATL Careers Portfolio team for launching their annual careers guide and delivering such a well-executed event. It was our pleasure to have sponsored UNE Law Students’ Society's Armidale Conference, which took place over a series of days last week. Lecturer/Assistant Director NSW PLT/Chair - Diversity & Inclusion Reference Group for The College of Law Australia, Florence Thum, was excited to be a part of the event and hosted multiple presentations for students in attendance. One of these sessions was titled, "Minding Burnout." This explored burnout through the lens of mindfulness, and shifting the narrative from exhaustion to insight. It addressed the importance of getting clear about our values in different facets of our personal and professional lives, and how burnout is an opportunity for value-realignment and growth. It was wonderful to see students interacting throughout the session and asking many thoughtful questions. We would love to give our thanks to UNE Law Students’ Society for their huge efforts in putting together such an enjoyable and valuable event for students - including UNELSS President Jordanna Dcruz, and Publications Director and Interim Vice President, Deb Russell.
