Hamas captivity survivor Maya Regev was the last person to see Guy Iluz z”l alive. They had both been injured by Hamas terrorists at the Nova music festival and ended up in the same hospital room in Gaza. They were there together for a day and a half, but it was enough time for the two to share so much about themselves, about their lives back home and what they missed the most. After taking strong painkillers, they both fell asleep, and when Maya woke, Guy was no longer alive. When Maya was released in November 2023, she relayed what had happened to Guy’s family. Guy’s body was held by Hamas for 738 days. When he was finally returned to Israel last Monday, Maya met with Guy’s father Michel and his siblings to close a circle before Guy was laid to rest. This is heartbreaking and painful to watch, but knowing that Maya could tell Guy’s family about his final moments brought them some comfort. Sorry, Guy. We had so hoped for a different ending.
