We support parents, educators & sports coaches to help young people build better body image. Founded by Taryn Brumfitt and Dr Zali Yager We provided researchinformed body image resources to parents, young people, teachers, and sports coaches, and provided guidance regarding ways to create more supportive environments to support improvements in body appreciation. Together, this is likely to lead to improvements in engagement in physical health behaviours (eg., physical activity), mental health outcomes, and prevention of eating disorders.

Popis

The Embrace Collective is an Australian nonprofit health promotion charity dedicated to improving body image and mental well-being among young people. Established with the vision of a world where young people are free from feelings of pressure, judgment, and shame related to their bodies, the organization focuses on early intervention through education and supportive resources[1][3][5].

Mission and Objectives

The core mission of The Embrace Collective is to equip and empower adults—parents, educators, and professionals—with the tools and support necessary to protect young people from body image distress. By embedding evidence-based programs and fostering cultures of kindness and body appreciation in environments where children live, learn, and play, the organization aims to reduce pressures and shame surrounding appearance. This approach targets minimizing risks associated with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues[1][3][5].

Programs and Reach

The Embrace Collective delivers a suite of age-appropriate, evidence-based programs collectively known as Embrace Kids. These initiatives are designed to get in early with the message of body appreciation and to support adults in creating shame-free settings. In 2023, the organization reached over one million Australian children, extending its impact through cinemas, classrooms, and community screenings in approximately 190 countries worldwide[1][2][3].

Leadership and Collaboration

The organization is led by Australian of the Year 2023, Taryn Brumfitt, alongside international body image expert Dr. Zali Yager and a global team comprising academics, clinicians, and advisors with lived experience. The Embrace Collective also operates The Embrace Impact Lab in partnership with Flinders University. This research arm focuses on innovative studies, program evaluation, and linking academic research to policy and practical applications to improve body image and overall well-being across the lifespan[1][5].

Advocacy and Community Engagement

Beyond education, The Embrace Collective advocates for systemic change by collaborating with stakeholders to create inclusive environments that foster body appreciation. The charity emphasizes collaboration over competition and is committed to driving health promotion informed by research and lived experiences. It encourages the community to contribute to the movement to build better body image and empower young people to thrive without shame or judgment[1][3][5].

This comprehensive approach positions The Embrace Collective as a major force in health promotion within Australia, addressing critical mental health challenges related to body image among youth with evidence-based programs, research, advocacy, and community involvement.
