💥 One moment. One decision. One life saved. In November 2024, young tradie Ned was working on a home renovation in Shepparton when John collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest. Ned had recently completed a CPR course, and it made all the difference. He jumped into action, performed CPR, and kept John alive until help arrived. Today, John, a beloved community figure and OAM recipient, is here because Ned was prepared. "A lot of people might know a little bit about CPR but they're not confident to do it. Ned's stepping forward with his confidence was the difference between life and death in that circumstance." John. This is Nessryn. Through her training and mentoring of St John Ambulance Youth at Pascoe Vale Girls College, 22 year old Nessryn plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of volunteers. Dedicating more than 900 hours in just 3 years, she hopes to share her wisdom to the younger volunteers wanting to make a difference in first aid, whether it be bites and stings, defibrillation or even radio communication. 'One of my proudest moments was when a youth member recognised stroke symptoms in their grandmother, remembered the FAST criteria, and called an ambulance,' says Nessryn. 'Growing up in a low-income area with low health literacy, I saw firsthand how a lack of medical knowledge can impact families'.
