IEA Member Spotlight: Chris Craft (@chriscraft.artist) Featured Work: Majestic 12” x 12” | Encaustic on Cradled Panel We're thrilled to shine a light on the work of Chris Craft, a full-time artist based in Canyon Lake, Texas, whose bold and expressive encaustic paintings are a celebration of texture, movement, and mood. Chris has been creating art since childhood and earned his BFA from UNC-Charlotte in 1994. After years of balancing commercial and fine art, he made the leap to full-time artist in 2014. Since then, encaustic has become his medium of choice — a perfect match for his abstracted landscapes and love of luminous surfaces. Chris is largely self-taught in encaustic but sought out deeper mastery through a class with Lisa Pressman at Penland School of Crafts in 2016. That same year, he was honored as an ArtPop Street Gallery artist with his work displayed on billboards, and created 50 original works as a CSA (Community Supported Art) artist. His passion for the medium extends to teaching private sessions, sharing his deep knowledge and experience with others who want to explore the beauty and complexity of encaustic. Majestic, today’s featured piece, exemplifies Chris’s signature approach — rich texture, flowing movement, and a grounded sense of place. His ability to evoke atmosphere through wax is both powerful and poetic.
