Mount St Benedict College
Mount St Benedict College is an independent Roman Catholic single-sex secondary day school for girls located in Pennant Hills, a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It operates under the guidance of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan of the Order of St Benedict and is part of the Good Samaritan Education community.
History
Established on February 1, 1966, the college initially started with 65 students under the leadership of Sisters Christopher Burrows and Hyacinth Roche. Today, it serves approximately 1,000 students from Year 7 to Year 12.
Affiliations and Traditions
Mount St Benedict College is affiliated with the Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia (AGSA) and the Association of Heads of Independent Girls' Schools (AHIGS). The college is deeply rooted in the Benedictine tradition, emphasizing values such as Pax (Peace), Hospitality, and Stewardship.
Educational Approach
The college offers a holistic education, incorporating the science of Positive Psychology to encourage optimal wellbeing among students. This approach focuses on developing students' strengths, building positive emotions, enhancing resilience, and fostering healthy lifestyles. The educational framework also includes a strong emphasis on service to others and achieving personal goals.
Pastoral Care
Mount St Benedict College implements a formal Pastoral Care Program, structured around eight Houses, each with a House Coordinator. Homeroom groups consist of students from Years 7 to 12, promoting inter-age relationships and continuity throughout a student's tenure at the college.
Student Support
The college supports students' individual needs through specialist learning support teachers, a careers advisor, and two counsellors. A merit system is in place to promote positive self-esteem, operating at bronze, silver, and gold levels.
