Leniece's husband, Rick, was only 48 years old when he died of a heart attack. She describes him as a larger-than-life character, who loved spending time with her and their young sons, Harry and Riley. A sergeant in the Royal Australian Air Force with 24 years of service, he was also incredibly passionate about his work. “He would have retired in the RAAF. He was what they call a ‘lifer’" - Leniece. Today marks 110 years since the Battle of Lone Pine, one of the most remembered battles fought by the ANZACs on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The action was intended as a diversion to draw Turkish reserves away from the main Allied attacks. The battle lasted four days and resulted in over 2,000 Australian casualties.
