VALE PETER GESNER We are saddened to announce the passing of Peter Gesner, a highly respected maritime archaeologist, and long-serving Senior Curator of Maritime Archaeology at Queensland Museum. Peter was a trailblazer in the field of maritime archaeology in Australia, renowned for his expertise on HMS Pandora, one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most significant shipwreck excavations. Through his curatorial work, scholarship, and dedication to public engagement, Peter brought the story of the Pandora to global audiences and shaped how Australia understands its maritime past. Peter was instrumental in the development of the Pandora Gallery at Queensland Museum Tropics in Townsville, a legacy that continues to educate and inspire.
