In 1977 leaders of the Greek community recognised the need for culturally appropriate aged care and our organisation grew from the most humble of beginnings to a leading provider of aged care services. Today, Fronditha Care, with a team of over 1000 staff, is privileged to support and care for more than 1800 elders across community and five residential services in Victoria and NSW. Holy Week was observed by our elders, families and staff across Fronditha Care- beginning with religious services on Palm Sunday and continuing throughout the week with team members, volunteers, alongside many of our elders and corporate staff, baking tsourekia and koulourakia, dyeing red eggs and decorating lambades and the Epitaphio. Fronditha Care Clayton residents and staff were visibly moved when students from the Greek Community of Melbourne's Language & Culture Schools joined them for the Good Friday Epitaphio procession throughout the facility. Faye Spiteri OAM, CEO of Fronditha Care, said, “Observing these centuries-old traditions keeps us culturally and importantly spirituslly connected. Most of us have very fond memories of preparing for Easter. It was wonderful to have third and fourth generation Greek Australian children observe Good Friday with elders and family members. I was especially touched by the Epitaphio procession and moved by the opportunity to share these special moments with so many of our elders.
